The Melcher-Dallas Baseball Squad jumped out to a big lead and held on for an 8-6 win over Central Decatur on Wednesday. The Saints had a 6-2 lead heading into the 3rd inning, when the Cardinals tied the game with four runs in the 4th inning. But the Saints scored one in their half of the 4th and added another in the 6th. Reece Chiabotta had two RBIs for Melcher-Dallas. The Saints pitching threw ten strikeouts and scattered six hits. The Saints finish the regular season at 4-15 and will play North Mahaska Saturday in the first round of the class 1A district at Twin Cedars. Meanwhile on the diamond the Saints defeated Colo-NESCO 19-9 as Melcher-Dallas put up ten runs in the 2nd inning. Paetyn Anderson and Gabby Overgaard each had three RBIs and both socked a home run. Lotty Nolte got the win striking out three. That brought an end of the regular season for Melcher-Dallas at 6-22. The Saints will travel to Montezuma on Monday for the first round of the class 1A regional.
