The Marion County Conservation Department released their May Nature Notes earlier this week. According to Marion County Naturalist Marla Mertz, the common milkweed bloomed heavily in June, while the purple milkweeds, butterfly weed, and other types of milkweeds are or will be blooming soon within the prairies and roadsides. Numerous insect species, and hummingbirds can be found around all types of milkweed. Mertz also notes that National Moth Week will be observed the week of July 20th-28th.
