Ciara Heffron threw a two hit gem and Siena Scott provided the game winning hit in the 6th inning as Knoxville defeated Oskaloosa 1-0 on Thursday in the class 4A regional opener heard live on 95.3 KNIA. Both Oskaloosa and Knoxville’s pitchers were allowing few if any baserunners, in fact Heffron had a perfect game going until the 6th inning when the Indians got on board on one of their two hits, but the runner was stranded. Meanwhile, Knoxville’s big inning came in the 6th when Heffron drew a walk and Marlea Cox singled, followed by Scott’s RBI single that scored Cadence Wells running for Heffron. Heffron told KNIA/KRLS that all of her pitches were working and her and Catcher Anna Anderson were communicating well.
Heffron: “Everything really was working. I’ll be honest, my warm ups were not working so I was worried going into the game, but Anna made some nice calls anc called pitches that don’t normally use and made it a great game.”
Heffron would strike out seven and walk none in the win. Knoxville is now 11-13 on the season and will travel to face #8 Carlisle on Saturday.
