The Indianola softball team used a seven-run first inning to blow by Creston 10-0 in six innings to win their regional quarterfinal game Thursday evening as heard live on 94.3 KNIA. Dana Blake and Sam Gripp started the scoring each with a solo home run, then after three singles Sully Downey cleared the bases with a three-RBI double, and she was driven in by Tessa Gripp as the Indians led 7-0 after the first. The Indians added another two runs in the third with back-to-back RBI doubles by Downey and Gripp again, then scored the 10th run on a Creston error.
Ava Tichy mowed down the Panthers lineup, only allowing scoring opportunities in two innings, and escaped a bases loaded one-out jam in the sixth to end the game early. Indians head coach Stacy Evans said after the game the team is just playing with so much confidence right now, and it is fun to see them begin to reach for their potential as they have some incredibly tough matchups ahead.
The Indians advance to face ADM on the road tomorrow.
