The Pella Christian Eagles girls varsity basketball team has put together a great start to the 2010-2011 season, going 4-1 leading up to the holiday break. Head Coach Kevin Van Maanen talked with me about what the team will be focusing on during the layoff. He would like to see the defense get sharper, especially in the full court trap. He wants to work on defensive aggressiveness over the break.
The Eagles will open up play in 2011 with a trip to South Tama on January 4th. Coach Van Maanen talked about Madison Bayer of South Tama, a 6’4″ junior who had supposedly made big strides in her game. He says his team will have to work hard to defend her, and adds that if the Eagles want to win, they’ll have to do it on the defensive end of the court.
