Garould Johnson of Bussey has been sentenced to ten years in prison for sexual abuse.

On Thursday in Marion County District Court, Johnson pleaded guilty to one count of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree. Johnson waived his right to have a sentencing hearing at a later date, and the parties proceeded to sentencing on the same day. Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree carries a mandatory 10-year indeterminate prison sentence. Accordingly, Judge Dustria Relph sentenced Johnson to 10 years in prison.

While incarcerated, Johnson will have to successfully complete the Sex Offender Treatment Program. Further, once released from prison, Johnson was ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and ordered to be supervised by the Department of Corrections pursuant to a lifetime special sentence. The State of Iowa was represented by Assistant Marion County Attorney Ross Gibson for this case. The Knoxville Police Department, led by Detective Jamie Robinson, investigated the case.
