The Knoxville City Council approved the preliminary plat for the Veterans District plat two subdivision.
This subdivision is located on the south side of West Pleasant St. across from Veterans Park and east of Willetts Dr. The plat is divided into two lots, with one lot being the future home of the Overland Group LLC. senior housing project, and the other lot being the potential future home of a Huegerich Construction market rental housing project, which will consist of an apartment building and town houses. The senior housing project will officially move forward as it has secured federal housing tax credits, but the market rental housing project has not been given the green light as the city is waiting on that project to also secure housing tax credits. Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery says this is the first step for Overland to move forward with their development.
“Overland Properties is one of the developers who proposed a 48 unit senior house for a portion of that. They found out recently that they were awarded those federal tax credits for that project. This is the first step in subdividing that block A into two parcels so they can continue with their development.”
The plat that was approved is referred to as “Block A,” which is the site of the former doctors quarters in the VA campus.
