Pella Regional Health Center is partnering with the Oskaloosa Lions Club to offer free vision screenings for children, spanning from 6 months old through kindergarten. 

The event will take place on Thursday, August 8th from 4-6 pm in the Conference Room at Pella Regional Health Center. The screenings will be administered by Iowa KidSight, a statewide initiative led by the Lions Club of Iowa in collaboration with the University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. These screenings are one of the approved methods to fulfill the vision screening requirement prior to kindergarten enrollment.

Early detection of vision issues is crucial for children’s development, and the screenings aim to identify potential impairments promptly. Following the screening, results will be analyzed by specialists from the University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. If a concern is identified, parents or guardians will receive a referral letter along with a list of local ophthalmologists and optometrists.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to enter the hospital through Entrance 5 off Hazel Street on the northeast side. The screening event is part of Iowa KidSight’s ongoing effort to enhance early detection and treatment of vision impairments among young children across Iowa communities.
