Ahead of their first trip to the Class 3A State Tournament, the PCM softball team is working to ensure that their mentality doesn’t change ahead of Monday’s quarterfinal match up.

The Mustangs first appearance in Fort Dodge comes as the seven seed in the Class 3A field, and they will square off with second-seeded Williamsburg. Entering arguably the biggest game of their careers to this point, PCM is focusing on playing their brand of softball. PCM head coach Shaun Hudnut says that his message to the girls has been to approach the State Tournament like any other game they’ve played this season.

“We’ve really just tried to stress that it’s just another ball game. We know the venue is big. Fortunately, we had a fantastic and very large crowd here for the regional final, so that gave a State type feeling and bigness to it, and so beyond that, it just comes back to the fact we’re playing softball. We’re pitching, playing catch, fielding, throwing, and hitting just like any other day. And we know our opponents up there and every team up there is going to be a very good team, including ourselves and it’s just a matter of going up and executing and staying within ourselves, and being the players that we are.”

Coverage of PCM’s quarterfinal match with Williamsburg begins at 6:45 pm on the KRLS3 stream and also on 92.1 KRLS after the conclusion of the Pella baseball game.
