The Southeast Warren and Martensdale-St. Mary’s softball teams compete in the class 1A state softball tournament starting today, the Warhawks taking on Pride of Iowa Conference rival Wayne, and the Blue Devils against Edgewood-Colesburg. The Blue Devils will look to do one better than their run in 2023 where they finished as state runner-up making it to the championship game but falling short against North Linn, where Southeast Warren is also a veteran of the state championship game, making the contest in 2022 where they fell against Twin Cedars.

Martensdale-St. Mary’s coach Emily Wood said the team has had a target on their back but they have embraced being the frontrunners and they want to get on top after falling just short last year.

Hear from both coaches on today’s Lely Radio Sports Page.

Martensdale-St. Mary’s plays at 4:45, while Southeast Warren plays at 7pm, all games in the Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge.
