The Martensdale-St. Mary’s softball team is making a return trip to the state championship game after defeating Fort Dodge-St. Edmond 2-1 Wednesday evening.

The Blue Devils scored a run in the second and a run in the third to lead 2-0, but the night was highlighted around a stellar performance by Blue Devils pitcher Campbell German. German struck out 13 batters in the dominant performance, and gave up the only run after a furious Gaels rally in the seventh inning. Martensdale advances to the state championship game tomorrow where they will take on Sigourney.

Southeast Warren fell to Sigourney in their class 1A semifinal matchup. The Warhawks fell behind 1-0 and that score lasted into the fifth inning, but then the Savages began to pour it on. Scoring another three runs in the fifth, and after the Warhawks got a run back in the sixth the Savages scored another two in the sixth and held on for the win. Southeast Warren will take on Fort Dodge-St. Edmond in the third place game tomorrow.
