The Indianola Police Department is conducting an Impaired Driving Enforcement Project in and around the Indianola community later this week. Police Chief Brian Sher tells KNIA News there will be additional officers patrolling the roadways in different locations throughout the city and Warren County, and this effort is to focus on detecting and removing drivers who choose to operate motor vehicles while being impaired under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or a combination of both.

Drivers under the influence were attributed to 24 motor vehicle accidents in Warren County in 2023, with August being the deadliest month on Iowa roads in 2023 with 47 fatalities being reported statewide.

The Indianola Police Department is partnering with the Iowa State Patrol, and the Carlisle and Norwalk Police Departments to have increased traffic enforcement units on the roads. The extra enforcement project will take place on Thursday, August 1st.
