Claiming the number eight spot for Pleasantville top sports stories of the 2023-2024 school year is Caleb Cook rushing for five touchdowns in the football season opener against Interstate 35.

Cook rushed for five TD’s and 280 yards in a 31-7 defeat of the Roadrunners. Cook went on to have an impressive senior football season recording 1,326 all-purpose yards and 21 touchdowns. Cook finished second in Class 1A for rushing touchdowns and fourth for all-purpose yards. Cook was also active on the defensive side of the football, recording 42.5 tackles and a fumble recovery. The senior was the kick returner for the Trojans as well and averaged 17 yards per punt return and 24 yards per kickoff return. 

To add to the resume Cook received second team all-state honors, first team all-conference honors, and was selected to play in the 2024 Iowa Shrine Bowl. Cook later went on to qualify for the state wrestling tournament, participated in track and field, and helped lead the Trojan baseball team to a trip to the state tournament. Cook graduated in the spring and will attend DMACC in the fall to focus on Ag Business.
