A Knoxville home caught fire after a lightning strike on Wednesday night.

On Wednesday at at 10:45 pm, the Knoxville Fire Department was dispatched to residential
structure fire at the 500 Block of W Montgomery St. While en route dispatch advised that the basement was full of smoke. Knoxville City Fire Department responded with one engine company, one EMS company, one ladder company and one command officer. When units arrived on scene there was smoke coming from the walk out basement door. An Engine Crew went to the basement to find that electrical room was where the fire was located. The Ladder crew conducted a search confirming everyone was out of the structure. A Ladder crew also began to ventilate the residence of smoke and products of combustion.

The house suffered smoke and fire damage, estimated at $10,000. The fire was confirmed to be started by a lightning strike. Residents are being assisted by The Red Cross.
