Resuming the countdown of the top ten sports stories from the 2023-2024 school year at Central College, the #5 moment saw the men’s golf team break a 39-year-old program record on Sunday, September 3rd. Dutch senior Harold Dobernecker followed up a sizzling opening day by matching his career-best score with a 3-under-par 69 to finish fifth in a loaded field at the Transylvania Fall Invitational. Dobernecker’s round helped the Dutch break the school’s 54-hole team record, as Central posted a three day total of 290-296-295—881 to finish seventh in the invitational. The previous record was set at 889 in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1984 and was tied again in Lincoln in 1992. Playing at the par-72 University Club of Kentucky, Dobernecker carded a 71-70-69—210, and played a bogey-free round on the final day with birdies on a pair of par-5s and a par-4. Cole McGriff had the next-best round of the day and finished at 76-77-72—225. John Oltman shot 72-73-76—221, Jacob Moffett had 72-79-78—229 and Blake Wynn shot 75-76-78—229.
