We have hit the top three of our Knoxville High School Sports moments for the 2023/2024 school year. #3 takes us to the wrestling mat as two Knoxville Wrestlers would qualify for the State Meet. Daniel Gorskikh at 175 pounds and Tristan Sinnard at 150 made it to Wells Fargo Arena out of the class 2A Atlantic District on February 10th. Gorskikh breezed through the district winning by pin in less than a minute in both of his matches. Sinnard had a little more difficult time as he lost in the title match, but won a wrestle back to earn the trip to State. At state, Sinnard lost his 1st round match, but won a consolation round match before falling in the 2nd round of consolation. Gorskikh, meanwhile, got all the way to the semi-finals before falling to Hesston Johnson of Roland-Story. Gorskikh went on to the consolation round where he would ultimately place 4th. Gorskikh told KNIA/KRLS Sports he knew his quarterfinal opponent well and that helped him win.
Gorskikh: “I think that first match it was a way of God showing me what I needed to do. That first match I was making dumb decisions, and I knew the second match I was better on my feet and even if I had to let him up, I knew I was better.”
Sinnard would finish with a 29-16 record, while Gorskikh would end his senior season at 35-2
