Continuing the countdown of the top 10 sports stories at Pella Christian during the 2023-2024 school year, our #3 moment saw senior Trevor Veenstra wrap up an illustrious track and field career at the State Meet May 16th-17th.
Kicking off his senior season in style, Veenstra recorded a throw of 57’2.5” in the shot put to take first place in Class 2A at the Iowa Track Coaches Association Indoor Championships. Trevor also earned the right to compete against Iowa’s best throwers at the Drake Relays, where he took second in the discus (184-8) and third in the shot put (57-02). Over the course of his senior season, Veenstra won 14 throwing events and never finished outside the top two in a meet. Trevor’s dominance led him back to the State Meet in May, where he brought home a State Title in the Class 2A shot put and a second place finish in the discus. Veenstra added his 2024 shot put title to the discus State Championship he won in 2023. After not getting the results he wanted in the shot put at State the prior two seasons, Trevor said the title was the perfect way to cap off his career.
“It’s just great to come out here after the past two years, not doing how I wanted to do, and just get that throw out there. That made me really, really happy.”
Veenstra will continue his throwing career at the collegiate level next spring, joining the Liberty University track and field team in Virginia.
