The Pella City Council approved a contract for renovations to the Tulip Toren at their meeting Tuesday.

Three different contractors submitted bids for the project that includes repairs to a beam in the basement, removal and replacement of concrete slabs at the base of each tower, removal and replacement of joint sealant, cleaning and sealing each tower, rust removal and painting of the bridge between the towers, removal of plantings around the base of the tower, replacing plantings with concrete to aid in water run off away from the base of the towers, repainting doors, and painting stage surface areas. The timeline for the project is from mid-August to near Thanksgiving and will cost the city $291,900 through contractor Pullman.

The council also approved a contract with TK Concrete on the tabled resolution to West 9th Street Improvements for $324,000, as well as engineering services contracts with Garden and Associates for Lincoln Street Improvements and Snyder and Associates for upgrades to the Exit 40 Interchange along Highway 163.

While no formal action was scheduled, policy and planning sessions were on the agenda as it relates to parking in the Molengracht and for solid waste bills, relating to several different aspects.
