We have finally reached our top sports moment for Knoxville during the 2023/2024 school year. Three years ago, if you would have asked Ciara Heffron what sport she would do in college, it would not have been track and field and throwing the discus. However, in the last two seasons, Heffron has become one of the top throwers not just in class 3A but also in Iowa. Heffron finished back-to-back years in the top five in the Drake Relays and completed a great career at the State Meet in May by finishing 2nd in the discus in class 3A with a throw of 139 feet three inches, and was 4th in the shot put with a toss of 38 feet nine inches. Heffron told KNIA/KRLS Sports coming up just short did not ruin a great run.
Heffron: “I was just working on feeling things and working on my positions and letting it fly, and trying as hard as I could.”
Heffron will continue her throwing career at the University of Northern Iowa this coming spring.
