The Newton Board of Education has two separate meetings tonight. During the regular meeting school board members will hear about a $100,000 grant Emerson Hough Elementary School received in late May. The grant from the Iowa Department of Education was for the Elementary School’s participation in a new Summer Reading Camp. The District’s Supervisors for Food Service, Maintenance & Grounds, Technology, and Transportation will also have reports. There will also be board discussion about handbook guidelines for K-12th grade cell phone and electronic device use. The regular school board meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. At 5:30 this evening, the board will meet for a work session, where Superintendent Tom Messenger and Director of Business Services Tim Bloom will review the end of the school year survey data from the District Culture Council. Both meetings will take place at the EJH Beard Administrative Center in Newton.
