Newton is looking for a new Varsity Head Baseball coach, Derek Wrage is leaving after two seasons. The Newton School Board accepted his resignation this week. The 2014 Newton High School graduate coached the Cardinals for two seasons, after previously being Marshalltown’s Varsity Baseball coach. Before that, he was an assistant baseball coach in Newton and Montezuma. He also played baseball at Cornell College in Mount Vernon. During his two seasons leading Newton’s baseball program, the Cardinals had 22 wins and 40 losses. The team went 12-18 his first season and 10-22 this year.
