The Jasper County Board of Supervisors are scheduled to consider a resolution calling for a special election on the issuance of up to $6,400,000 in general obligation bonds or capital loan notes at their meeting today. The revenue would be used to construct a new Secondary Roads maintenance building on county-owned land near the County Sheriff’s Office and Jail. The land is just south of Interstate 80 on the east edge of Newton. The county recently built a new snow plow and truck storage facility there. The current Secondary Roads Maintenance building is in north central Newton. The proposed date for the Special Election is Tuesday, November 5th of this year. Also on today’s agenda is a Letter of Intent to participate in a countywide EMS Affiliation. County Sheriff John Halftery says by signing the letter, Jasper County acknowledges a willingness to collaborate with other EMS agencies throughout the county to improve service delivery, share resources, and engage in joint training and operational initiatives. The Jasper County Board of Supervisors meeting begins at 9:30 this morning in the Board Room at the Courthouse in Newton.
