The construction contract for the new clubhouse at Newton’s Westwood Golf Course was unanimously approved by the Newton City Council last night. A low bid of $378,000 from Ball Team LLC of Urbandale beat out three other bids, which ranged up to $429,000. The Engineer’s cost estimate on the 60’ x 100’ post-frame clubhouse was just over $283,500. Newton residents approved this project as part of a September 13, 2022 bond referendum. Newton Mayor Evelyn George says this and all the other park projects included in that bond issue were over budget because of price increases that have occurred nationwide. The new golf course clubhouse is to be completed by the end of March. The Newton City Council also heard the annual Library Report from Library Director Nicole Terry, and ended the meeting in closed session to discuss present or possible litigation.
