Posting four sub-80 scores, the Norwalk boys golfers placed fourth out of eight teams in Monday’s Ankeny Centennial Jesse Peck Invitational.
Senior Grady Sigrist paced the Warriors with a 1-under-par round of 71, scoring seven birdies as part of a three-way tie for second place. Braeden Nelson of West Des Moines Valley earned top medalist honors with a 69.
Norwalk junior Ian Lux shot a 77, sophomore Dayton Poen carded a 78 in his first varsity meet and junior Lane Juergens added a 79. The Warriors’ team score of 305 at Briarwood Golf Club was 16 strokes better than they shot on the same course in last year’s district meet. They finished only nine strokes out of first place as Ankeny won the tournament with a 296, edging Valley by one shot.
Norwalk returns to action today, traveling to Grimes for an 8:00 a.m. dual meet against DC-G at Beaver Creek.
