Newton Mayor Evelyn George says the City’s Sanitary Landfill is still accessible despite the current road construction and closure of Highway 14. According to George, if you are headed to the landfill you are allowed to drive on the shoulder to the landfill and back. But she adds drive slowly and carefully. The closure on Highway 14 just south of Newton from South 24th Avenue West to South 60th Avenue West (which is known as the prison road) is expected to last approximately 4 weeks.
