The Pella City Council had plenty to discuss during their policy and planning session at Tuesday evening’s meeting.
A policy and planning work session included discussion about a pickleball courts request, the proposed update to the city’s comprehensive plan and zoning code, renewal of the Bos Landen Golf grounds equipment lease, and an electric emission sale. City Administrator Mike Nardini also provided updates about the Pella Memorial Building, recently-acquired city property on south Main Street, and the latest from a consultant’s report for ambulance service updates in the community. Multiple next steps for all of those projects are expected in either work sessions or formal action in September.
New Pella Police Officer Brandon Husmann took his oath of office, joining the department after four years with the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office.
Formal agenda items included a pair of public hearings for rezonings on South Street that were both approved, as well as a public hearing to vacate a storm sewer easement at the Bos Landen Estates. A proposed development with The Courtyards Land Holding, LLC has been tabled into September.
A resolution that was also approved authorized a private construction agreement with Pella Corporation, and an ordinance to increase solid waste rates was also agreed to in a first reading.
