Four teams from Newton are in action today. The Cardinals Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams compete for the first time this season. Both squads will be at Marshalltown Community College for a meet with ten other schools including Marshalltown, North Mahaska, and South Tama. The runners will start at 4:30 p.m. The Cardinals Girl Swim team will host a triangular tonight at 5:30 p.m. at the Newton YMCA. This is also their first competition of the season. Tipton and Williamsburg are the other teams competing. Newton’s volleyball team follows up their season opening invitational this past Tuesday with a trip to Lynnville-Sully High School this evening. The Cardinals will get a rematch with PCM and play the hosts. The Mustangs beat Newton this past Tuesday night in straight sets 21-15 and 21-13.
