Elise Cameron with Carousel Theatre in Indianola was honored for her performance in “Urinetown” at the annual Cloris Awards as announced earlier this week.
Carousel Theatre was nominated for nine total awards, and Alex Lindsley with Carousel tells KNIA News Urinetown is a musical that takes place in a city with a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, which has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets.
Lindsley said the show is a mix of satire, comedy, drama, and contains a powerful message, which allows the actors to show their range and explore the characters.
The Cloris Leachman Excellence in Theatre Arts Awards, affectionately known as the Clorises, celebrate excellence in theatre in greater Des Moines. The award ceremony will be August 25th at 5pm at Hoyt Sherman Place.
