Competing at the par 72 Pheasant Ridge Golf Course, Parker Stout leads the way with a 73 and is in a tie for fourth. Lydia Grond also finds herself in the top ten, coming in sixth after shooting a 74. Dreary Start for Dutch Men’s Golf Team

Rain hampered the first day of the Central College men’s golf season at the Transylvania (Ky.) Fall Invitational on Saturday.

The Dutch and the rest of the 19-team field were scheduled to play 36 holes at the par-72 University Club of Kentucky. Six inches of rain on Friday night caused a nearly three-hour delay to start the day, before another 90-minute pause occurred due to severe weather after just eight holes. The Dutch got through seven additional holes before more delays took golfers off the course for the day. Central is 33 strokes over par and in 18th place thus far.

The tournament has been shortened to just 36 holes as the teams will complete the remainder of their first round today before playing a fresh 18 holes.

Dutch Sweep Cobbers in Home Volleyball Tournament Finale

The Dutch took down Concordia College – Moorhead (Minn.) via a sweep (25-14, 26-25, 25-10) in the nightcap, following a 3-1 loss (26-24, 25-22, 23-25, 25-21) to Fontbonne University (Mo.) in the opener. Central also split a pair of matches on Friday in a similar fashion. Gracie Pierson had her first double-double of the year with 10 kills and 12 digs in the win over the Cobbers. Paige Sexton had a career high seven service aces to go with eight kills, while Avery Rexroat and Makayla Ribble each had 14 assists. Colleen Kenney posted 14 digs and middle hitter Kaitlyn Mumm was in on five blocks. Landry Pacha had 14 kills in a losing effort in the opener, and added seven more against Concordia.

Central ventures to Lamoni Tuesday for a non-conference clash at Graceland University starting at 7:30 pm.

Successful Opening Day for Central Women’s Tennis Team

The Dutch women’s tennis team opened their season in split squad fashion Saturday, with one team competing against Monmouth College in a dual match and the other team at the Truman State Invitational.

The team that traveled to Monmouth came away with a 4-3 win. Despite only winning one of the doubles matches, Central won three singles matches to clinch the win. Leading the squad at Monmouth were seniors Taylor Wyeth, who won her No. 4 singles match 6-2, 6-0, and Abby Den Adel, who won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles and 6-0 at No. 3 doubles with partner Emily Blum.
