A new Jasper County Medical Examiner Investigator has been appointed. Registered Nurse Mollie Bottorff of Baxter will now be responding to death investigations countywide. Her appointment was unanimously approved by the County Board of Supervisors Tuesday. Jasper County Sheriff John Halferty has been the Medical Examiner Investigator. He’s retiring as Sheriff at the end of this year and IPERS also requires him to terminate his appointment as the County’s Medical Examiner Investigator. Halfery and Jasper County Medical Examiner Dr. Patrick Edwards both recommended Bottorff’s appointment. She told the County Supervisors she’s been a registered nurse for 13 years, been with the Baxter Rescue Unit for 13 years, and has experience at the state office.
“I have experience at the State Medical Examiner’s Office as an Autopsy Technician.”
Bottorff also worked part-time for 10 years at Fredregill Funeral Home in Baxter. Her appointment was made prior to Sheriff Halferty’s retirement so she could be fully trained to respond to death investigations.
