Construction on the downtown Indianola square was completed late August, ending a four-year improvement project to upgrade the streets and surrounding area. City of Indianola Public Works Director Akhilesh Pal tells KNIA News not only were the streets improved, but the infrastructure under the streets was a big focus.
“The water pipes has been upgraded, the water mains have been upgraded, the sanitary sewer pipes have been upgraded, and then finally the surfacing has also been upgraded. So it’s not just a pavement project, it’s our entire utility infrastructure, that’s increased the safety for firefighting or anything else in our snow removal activities. It’s not just improved the aesthetics, but also the function of the downtown has significantly improved.”
