Newton Police are asking parents to discuss with their children the dangers of approaching strangers and unknown vehicles. This request follows a call about suspicious interaction with a child this past Monday, September 2nd. At 12:40pm Newton Police Lt. Wayne Winchell says officers went to the 600-block of East 8th Street South to investigate a report of an attempted child abduction.  According to Lt. Winchell, a video of the incident obtained from a neighbor shows a white male in a white 4 door vehicle stopping in the street and handing something to a 4 year old child. The man then drives away. The police say the 4 year old was given four gold colored $1 coins. Officers note no crime was committed as the man did not get out of his car and immediately drove away after handing over the coins. Newton Police do not know the identity of the man and no license plate number was visible in the video. The Police Department encourages citizens to report any similar activity.
