The Knoxville Cross Country Squads will head to the Wayne Invitational today. The boys won the Albia meet to start off the season with Isaac Rankin winning the individual title. For the girls, the Panthers placed 5th at Albia led by Nichole Schultz over the line in 23rd place. Girls Coach Mikayla Splavec tells KNIA/KRLS Sports Schultz will have a few runners around her with experience in meets.

Splavec: “Janie Maasdam and Nicole Schultz will be back with a lot of experience. Janie is a senior and Nicole is a junior. Also Halle Baker returns as a junior. She won’t have her sister Janae to run with, but I’m excited to see what she can do.”

The Panthers will see four fellow South Central Conference teams including Chariton, Clarke, Centerville and Albia. The meet is set to take place at the Corydon Golf Club at Walden Park Golf Course.

After surviving a five set marathon over Albia on Tuesday, the class 4A #13 Knoxville Volleyball Squad will head to Atlantic on Saturday. The Panthers have fared well in that meet playing teams from the western side of Iowa. Coach Mollie Keitges tells KNIA/KRLS Sports it gives her team a chance to play teams that they likely would not face during the season or in postseason matches. Knoxville will take on the host Trojans along with Grand View Christian, class 1A #13 St. Albert, Des Moines Roosevelt, and Treynor.
