The PCM volleyball team fell to West Marshall in straight sets on the road Monday night in their Heart of Iowa Conference opener.
The Mustangs fell in set one 25-23, set two 25-19, and set three 25-16. Addyson Pederson led the team with seven kills while Rebecca DeVries had five. Addison Steenhoek led the team with ten digs while Libby Winters had nine, and Tori Lindsay led the team with 13 assists. Coach Sarah Devries tells KNIA/KRLS her team really came out strong and stayed with West Marshall through the first set, just finishing short. The whole match felt a little like a roller coaster with each team having highs and lows. In the second set West Marshall came out strong and we were down by more than 12 points. DeVries adds her team fought their way back with a rally of Tori serving and winning at the net. DeVries says the difference maker was West Marshall’s strong attack of #12 and #22 that our block had a hard time defending. DeVries says she is proud of her girls and how they continued to fight through this match, but they also know they have things to keep working on in practice.
PCM falls to 5-3 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. The Mustang volleyball team will be back in action on Thursday at Saydel.
