Pella Historical Museums are hosting a celebration of the anniversary of a special landmark. Director Jessi Galligan says an event will be held on Saturday, September 14th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Amsterdam School. The facility will be open with special guest speakers sharing about growing up in a one-room schoolhouse. In 1874, the Amsterdam School District was founded with two school buildings, East Amsterdam and West Amsterdam, resurrected to serve as the locations for local children to receive their education. Now, the building serves as a field trip destination. The event will also serve as a fundraiser to support renovations to the facility. A shuttle will be provided from the North Tailwater Recreation Area. Those with questions should contact Liz at lvangorp@pellahistorical.com. Liz is also seeking speakers who may have attended a schoolhouse for this weekend’s event.
