Dutch Stumble on Day Two of Men’s Golf Meet at Carthage

Tougher pin placements and winder conditions hampered the Central College men’s golf team Tuesday in the final round of the Carthage (Wis.) Firebird Fall Invitational.

Central fell to eighth in the 17 team-field, recording a 300-319—619. The second day was much more difficult for the Dutch on the par-70 Hawks View Golf Course as they were 19 strokes off their round one score. After sharing the lead through 18 holes, freshman Maison Brandt struggled with an 82 on day two. He finished tied for 19th with a 70-82—162 total. Three other Dutch players tied for 36th, as Bautista Valeiras, Crew Klingner, and Kayden Pendergrass each recorded a two-day total of 156. Carter Yurgae rounded out the lineup in 53rd with a two-day total of 159.

The Central men’s golf team returns to Wisconsin September 15th and 16th for the Frank Wrigglesworth Invitational at Eau Claire Golf & Country Club in Altoona. 

Central Men’s Soccer Team Dominates Second Half to Draw Grinnell

The Central College men’s soccer team dominated the second half and scored two goals to record a 2-2 draw against Grinnell College on Tuesday.

The Dutch (3-1-1) out-shot the Pioneers 8-3 in the second half, and had five corner kicks compared to zero for Grinnell. After giving up two first half goals, Central cut the deficit to one shortly after halftime when defenseman Trysten Vasquez scored from an assist by defender Max Lauman. The second half surge continued late, as midfielder Coleman Manuel set up the equalizer with the assist to midfielder Ian Greddell in the 84th minute.

The Dutch next compete on Saturday, traveling to Sioux Center to take on Dordt University at 3:15 pm.

Central Secures Volleyball Sweep at Clarke

The Central College volleyball team bagged another sweep Tuesday night, this time taking out Clarke University in straight sets 25-20, 25-21, 29-27.

The Dutch (5-4) had a .230 hitting percentage on the night, notching 44 kills with just 13 errors on 135 attempts. In the second set, the Dutch had no attack errors and 18 kills. Setter Makayla Ribble had a double-double to pace the team with 21 assists and 15 digs. She also had a team-high three service aces. Outside hitter Paige Sexton led the way with 12 kills. Middle hitters Emma Wagler and Kaitlyn Mumm each assisted on three blocks. 

The Dutch have three matches this weekend at the Monmouth Tournament, starting with a 7 p.m. match Friday night against the Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.).
