courts

Newton City Administrator Matt Muckler says the four pickleball courts added to Aurora Heights Park have been a big hit. Now, the park’s tennis courts are going to be improved and expanded.

“The tennis courts basically around the pickleball courts now look a little tired. The fencing needs to be replaced, the lighting is not up to standards, the court surfaces are not where we want them. Next year we are going to resurface the six existing tennis courts and build two new courts. So when the high school tennis teams play, they have 8 courts to play on in one location instead of dividing the Varsity and JV up between Aurora Park and Maytag Park.”

Muckler says Aurora Park, along 1st Avenue East in Newton, is getting a lot of use. Many community events are being held there, such as the 11th annual Carnival in the Park just a couple of weeks ago.
