The Pella Area Community and Economic Alliance hosted a presentation about major road projects near Lake Red Rock coming up over the next several months during their quarterly breakfast Thursday.
Both the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Iowa DOT discussed ongoing repairs to the Red Rock Dam and an upcoming overlay for the Mile Long Bridge along Highway 14 north of Knoxville.
Acting Manager of Lake Red Rock Hugh Howe says drivers should anticipate multiple two-to-three day closures through November, and again starting in the spring of 2025 and continuing through the following fall season as the Corps updates the floodgates on the dam.
Assistant District Engineer Steve McElmeel with the Iowa DOT says work will begin in the spring of 2025 to resurface and repair the Mile Long Bridge and replace the Brush Creek Bridge just south of G-28 at the same time.
Hear more about both projects on In Touch with South Central Iowa, which airs at 7:30 and 11:30 Saturday morning and 6 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday on KNIA/KRLS.
