Two more speakers remain this fall for the “Voices of Inspiration” guest speaker series hosted by the United Way of Jasper County. This past Thursday night the series featured Kent Stock, the former coach of the Norway Iowa baseball team and the inspiration for the movie “The Final Season”. Stock led the Norway baseball team to its 20th State Championship. It was his only season as the team’s coach, and the last season for the Norway baseball team before the school district merged with another. He explains why he titled his talk “How Do You Want to Be Remembered.”
“I challenge people across the country to think about every person you meet and every interaction you have, think about how you want to be remembered. It’s not a death and dying thing. Hopefully through my good things in life and some of the negative things in my life, I can inspire people to do great things.”
United Way of Jasper County Executive Director Jessica Lowe Vokes says the free “Voices of Inspiration” series at the Newton DMACC Auditorium began in the spring of last year, and was so successful, a fall series was added. The last two speakers this fall are Newton area historian and author Mike Chapman on Thursday, September 26th, and Ty Rushing on Thursday, October 24th. Rushing is a professor, filmmaker, and former local journalist.
