The Pella Christian football team showed improvement Friday night, but it wasn’t enough to avoid a 40-7 loss to Grundy Center heard live on the KRLS2 stream at KNIAKRLS.com.
The Eagles offense churned out their best offensive showing of the season against the two-time defending state champions. Pella Christian posted 251 total yards of offense on the night, more than double the amount of yardage in either of their first two games this year. Despite the Eagles’ improvement on offense, it wasn’t enough to keep up with Grundy Center. The Spartans scored on their first four possessions to take a 26-0 lead into halftime, and added their final two scores in the third quarter to increase the advantage to 40-0. Despite their best yardage output of the year, Pella Christian only found paydirt once, when Cooper Spronk scored from nine-yards out midway through the fourth quarter.
Pella Christian falls to 0-3 overall on season, and will look to wipe the slate clean with their district opener at Pleasantville next Friday.
