The Newton Boys and Girls Cross Country teams ran against competition from several midwest states Saturday. The Cardinals traveled to St. Louis to participate in the Forest Park Cross Country Festival. The Newton boys placed 20th out of 23 schools. The Cardinal’s highest place finisher among the 196 runners was Junior Lance Zaabel. His time of 17:28.4 was 86th best. Newton Sophomore Cooper Lenze at 18:02.3 was 113th. The Newton girls placed 19th out of 22 schools. Freshman Audrey Muckler was 43rd out of 176 runners with a time of 20:49.5. Senior Bella Winther’s 22:57.6 placed her 124th. The Cardinal Boys and Girls will travel to Oskaloosa Tuesday to participate in the Oskaloosa Cross Country Meet.
