The Newton School board has unanimously approved a resolution to request modified allowable growth and supplement aid for a negative special education balance of $175,531.60 for the end of the 2023-24 school year. Tim Bloom, the school district’s Director of Business Services, says this deficit is significantly lower than in past years. School Board Member Travis Padget acknowledged this, and thanked Bloom and the administration and staff for good fiscal management in this area. Bloom noted the approved resolution gives the school district the authority to levy against the deficit. It does not provide any cash.
