A major milestone was crossed this week for the Indianola Police Department, as Chief Brian Sher celebrated 30 years in the department, rising from police officer to chief. Indianola City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News when he arrived at Indianola, the department was being run by then Interim Chief Sher following the retirement of Chief Button, and it was an easy decision to remove the interim title.

“It is such an admirable effort, and not only to put in 30 years of public service and defending and taking care of the public in general, but to do so in one department and his commitment and loyalty to the city of Indianola over those 30 years and being a leader all the way through to today is something that truly is to be commended. I thought the mayor did a great job of writing up her words of accolation for his many decades of service. So we couldn’t be happier. When I did interview to fill that role, I had an opportunity to do a ride-in with every officer and get their buy-in in that decision, and so it was great to make that choice and great to see that leadership perpetuate.”
