The traditional route for tomorrow night’s Homecoming Parade in Newton has been altered due to street construction downtown. Instead of leaving Newton High School at 6 p.m. and heading straight north on East 4th Street South, the parade will go one block west on South 8th Avenue East. The route then goes north on East 3rd Street South. At South 2nd Avenue East, the route heads west for three blocks. Parade participants will then turn north on West 2nd Street South to go past the west side of the square, and then stop north of the Courthouse. That’s where a short pep rally will be held. Newton’s Homecoming theme this year is “At Last Cardinals See the Light (Tangled).” The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during a pep assembly at the High School that begins shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday. The Homecoming football game against Marshalltown kicks off at 7:30 Friday night and can be heard live on kniakrls.com KRLS3. The Cardinals Homecoming Dance will take place in the High School’s lower gym from 8:15 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. Saturday night.
