Property taxes in Marion County are due on September 30th.

Statements only get sent out in August each year and that statement has two payment stubs, one for September, and one for the payment that is due the following March. September and March installments are the same bill and the state splits it into two payments. Those who are late paying property taxes are assessed a 1.5% penalty per month. Marion County Treasurer Michaela Bigaouette says there are many ways property taxes can be paid including in person at the courthouse, online, at the courthouse dropbox, mail, or by phone.

“The easiest way in my opinion, and I think we have a pretty tech savvy society these days, the easiest way is to go to our website marioncountyiowa.gov. There are links there to pay online. There is a fee for credit cards, but if you pay by e-check they are only a quarter which is cheaper than a stamp or driving to the courthouse.”
