A Newton woman was sentenced this week for her role in delivering methamphetamine in Newton. Jasper County District Court documents show 33-year-old Katie Scarlett Nelson pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Deliver Methamphetamine Under Five Grams, a Class C felony. Her sentence is three years probation, a $1,000 civil penalty, and undergoing a substance abuse evaluation and any recommended treatment. The criminal complaint filed by Newton Police states Nelson admitted to providing rides to a man delivering methamphetamine in town, and to allowing that man to use her vehicle to get methamphetamine from Des Moines. Nelson was arrested on April 13th of last year. Newton Police say a search of her vehicle that day turned up plastic packaging material, a syringe, and other drug paraphernalia.
