A pair of Marion County Class 1A high school football teams clash on the gridiron tonight, as Pleasantville will host Pella Christian in both team’s district opener.

The Trojans enter tonight’s contest on a two game winning streak, bouncing back from a season opening loss against Interstate 35 to beat Woodward-Granger and Lynnville-Sully. Meanwhile, the Eagles are looking to grab their first win of the season after falling in their first three games to Des Moines Christian, PCM, and Grundy Center. While Pella Christian has struggled against a difficult non-district schedule, Pleasantville Head Coach Mack Jorth has told his team not to be deceived by the Eagles’ 0-3 record.

“The emphasis has been very, very clear that this is a very good football team and the teams they played are very, very good football teams and they’re just kind of getting their things going. They will continue to improve and we will see the best Pella Christian team that’s been on film yet Friday, and we better be ready to go to answer that.”

Pella Christian head coach Rich Kacmarynski knows his squad faces yet another tough test tonight, but says he’s excited to wipe the slate clean with district play.

“I said to our team at the start of this week, it’s a new week, it’s a new season, it’s a new day, and everything that we wanted to do is still out there available for us to do. We’ve got a big one tonight with Pleasantville, but it’s a new season and we’re really excited about that.”
