The Marion County Board of Supervisors voted to re-establish a county compensation board at their meeting on Tuesday.
It was previously dissolved recently and the supervisors voted to re-establish the group in a 2-1 split vote as Board Chair Mark Raymie voted no. Also at the meeting, the board declined a request for a Chuck Galeazzi memorial bench to be placed on the courthouse grounds due to concerns about not wanting to have to accept everyone of these requests moving forward. The board suggested that the family of Galeazzi contact the City of Knoxville for a potential memorial.
The board then approved $100,000 in additional American Rescue Plan Act funding for the Junction 92 project. Marion County Engineer Tyler Christian asked for $300,000, and the money he requested was from the interest the county received from their current ARPA funding that hasn’t been spent yet. This was met with criticism from County Sheriff Jason Sandholdt, as he noted that every county department could benefit from that interest and it could be distributed more evenly. The board ultimately decided to provide the project with the $100,000 from the standard ARPA fund and leave the interest alone.
The meeting concluded with the board approving a letter of support for an Asphalt Paving Association of Iowa Quality Design Award Nomination.
