The Norwalk volleyball team’s Senior Night was spoiled by Pella on Tuesday in a Little Hawkeye Conference matchup of Class 4A Top 10 teams. The fifth-ranked Dutch excelled in all facets of the game, sweeping the eighth-ranked Warriors 25-15, 25-21, 25-14.
Norwalk led only two times in the match: 8-7 in set one and 2-0 in set three. The Warriors played some of their better volleyball in the latter stages of set two, getting a combined five kills from Emmory Toppenberg and Elle Hatlevig, but Pella was in control throughout most of the match.
Katie Scheckel, Emma Eekhoff and Abbie Brand all had big games at the net for Pella, which improved to 28-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Norwalk had some good moments as well, but struggled in the passing department and could not stay in system. When they were in system, Pella’s blocking and digging still made it tough to score points.
Prior to the game, Warrior seniors Dakota Poen, Liz Iverson, Toppenberg and Addie Fisher were recognized along with their parents. Norwalk is now 14-9 overall and 2-2 in the Little Hawkeye. They will compete in Saturday’s Nevada Tournament starting at 8:30 a.m.
