The Jasper County Board of Supervisors have approved the purchase of steel girder packages to replace four bridges damaged by high water this spring. Jasper County Engineer Michael Frietsch says the bridges were damaged beyond repair during the May 21st rain storm.
“Bridge MO3 was actually in Cherry Creek and the road is closed now. Bridge HO8 was damaged beyond repair. It’s northwest of Newton. Bridge A08 is in the northeast corner of the County. It was again damaged beyond repair. Bridge L1 is east of Newton on I believe 12th Avenue, east of 60th Street.”
The total cost for the steel girder packages to replace all four bridges is $621,247. Oden Enterprises of Wahoo, Nebraska was the only bidder. Frietsch says the lead time on some of the steel is seven months to a year. All four bridges are expected to be replaced next summer. As of now, the county engineer says they have a total of nine bridge projects planned.
